Achilleas Constantinou - Owner, Ariella Fashions
We built up a renowned brand
Ariella was started in 1971 by my brother Aristos, who tragically died in 1985, as a small clothing retailer on the first floor of a building in London’s Carnaby Street. We grew into 11 retail branches in the UK, Europe and the US, and a wholesale business that supplies some of the world’s leading retailers including House of Fraser and John Lewis in the UK.
Innovation is key
We have always focussed entirely on our customer – the person who will eventually buy our dress in a shop – and by doing that, we have been successful. I am proud that we have always been at the cutting edge of fashion and our dresses have constantly helped to set the trends. Now that I’m 62, I feel that it’s important to keep the creative heart of the business young and vibrant, which is why my daughter Lana, and my sons are getting involved in the company and allowing me to take more of a back seat.
The future is in good hands
Lana, along with her friend Hayley Nineberg, have been working closely with me to learn the business over the last four years and are now in the perfect position to take the reins of our sales division. Likewise, my eldest son Alexander is a director of Ariella, my other son Nicholas is a solicitor and now works as our in-house lawyer while my youngest son Marcus is hoping to join the company after university. With such a young and vibrant heart to the business, aided by the stable relationship we have with the Bank – our bankers from the beginning – I believe that we can help stay at the forefront of fashion for another 40 years.
