I took a leap of faith
Black Moon is seven years old now, and the opportunity to set up my own business came about after I had been with another lighting company as an employee for 16 years. I was keen to move on and felt that it was a case of ‘now or never’, so I took the risk and went for it. I think that if I hadn’t done that I would have always regretted it years later.
We grew from nothing
I started Black Moon from the basement of my house working as a one-man band, but quickly grew the business and brought more people, including my co-director Bob Owens, on board to the point where we now employ 22 people and have offices in Edinburgh and Manchester. We design, manufacture and supply lighting for clients ranging from homeowners to large commercial clients – we’ve recently finished a project providing lighting for Derby town centre are part of a regeneration programme.
We keep control of our cash flow
I’ve had so much help from the Bank over the years, and what I really appreciate is having a Relationship Manager in Jim Hiddleston who I can phone up or go and visit when I need some help. I would recommend anyone else to do the same thing – your Relationship Manager is there and you would be foolish not to use them.
